The University of Nottingham seeks applications for a full-time Research Associate/Fellow to work on the palynology and palynomorph chemistry of the Cretaceous Paleogene mass extinction event. 

This NERC funded project is based within the School of Biosciences at the University of Nottingham and led by Professor Barry Lomax in collaboration with the Open University (Dr Luke Mander) and Oxford Brookes (Dr Wesley Fraser). 

Candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and a PhD (completed or near-completed) in a relevant field such as Environmental or Earth Sciences, have experience of disseminating their own research findings either via conference presentations or publications in international peer-reviewed journals. 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a background in the analysis of pollen and spore morphology and palaeoecology of ancient vegetation using palynomorph data. Ideally candidates should have experience in Cretaceous/ Paleogene angiosperm pollen and spore taxonomy and identification or experience in chemical methods for characterizing sporopollenin. Candidates should have excellent organisation, time management and communication skills and the ability to analyse large datasets.

The School of Biosciences, is internationally recognised as a leader in its field for the provision of both research and teaching. The campus is self-contained on a 16-hectare site located in South Nottinghamshire. 

This is a full-time (36.25 hours) fixed-term post available from 1st October or as soon as possible thereafter, for a period of 21 months in the first instance. Job share arrangements may be considered.  This post is laboratory-based with very limited opportunity of working from home.
