Salary: £27924 to £36382 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £31406 with relevant PhD).

Life cycle assessment of More Electric Aircraft: Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate position in the evaluation of power electronics systems that will enable more electric flight. 

 For the successful candidate, this position will provide an excellent opportunity to expand your expertise in the development of life cycle assessment techniques and their application to low carbon transportation technologies within a world leading research programme. You will be integrated with the University of Nottingham’s activities within the Clean Sky 2 programme, where researchers are working with established aerospace Primes and Supply Chain organisations across a range of cutting-edge technology areas aimed at reducing CO2, gas emissions, and noise levels in next generation aircraft (Link to website ). 

In this role, you will explore the resource and environmental sustainability implications of powertrain components, evaluating emerging opportunities for more resource-efficient and lightweight devices to deliver improvements in resource and environmental impact metrics across the full life cycle. With primary responsibility for the development of life cycle inventory and life cycle assessment models of component manufacture and use, you will work with UK and European colleagues to collect and interpret experimental, prototype, and demonstration-scale data for the manufacture of devices and their use in current and future aircraft (Link to relevant previous work ). 

You will hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD in a relevant subject area, with a background in a relevant engineering discipline being particularly desirable. You must have relevant practical experience undertaking life cycle assessment studies to qualify for this role. Additional essential skills that you possess include: effective collaborative working in a multi-disciplinary environment; and the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences. 

This full-time position is offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months, available to start immediately with an end date by 31st December 2023.
