A Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) is sought to help deliver a high-quality research to contribute to a project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), entitled ‘Doing more with less: digital twinning of Ti forgings’. This project is a collaboration between the University of Manchester, the University of Strathclyde and the Turing Institute. The role will be based at The University of Manchester, within the Centre for Light Alloys Research and Innovation (CLARI) in the School of Materials and the Henry Royce Institute.

The PDRA will be responsible for delivering high quality research on the topic of microstructure  development during hot forming of titanium alloys. You will use statistical models and machine learning approached to combine crystal plasticity full field modeling and experimental measurements of texture to makes predictions of microstructure evolution during hot working. Alongside this computational work, you will use electron back-scatter diffraction to measure the texture and microtexture in hot formed material.

The PDRA will be associated with the CLARI research group and will be responsible for engaging with other team members to meet the overall objectives of the programme. They will also be responsible for leading the dissemination of the research outcomes in their area (e.g. through high-impact publications), presenting their work at international conferences, and assisting in the supervision of PhD and other research students associated with the programme.
