This position offers an exciting opportunity for a political scientist or legal scholar to join a new multi-million-pound ESRC-funded Research Centre, the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy (CITP). CITP spans universities across the four UK administrations as well as international partners and brings together interdisciplinary research in trade, economics, politics, political economy and law. It is one of of three posts within a suite of collaborative projects run by a team at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and Cardiff University under CITP’s research theme ‘Negotiating a Turbulent World’ on the governance of UK trade policy.
The Cardiff-QUB collaborative projects are: 1) Governance and Inclusivity in the UK on interactions between trade agreements and devolution, 2) Mapping stakeholder participation to formal and informal trade bodies on who, how, to what extent stakeholders are involved in the formulation of trade policy, 3) Transversal policy coherence on the degree of policy coherence – in terms of inputs and outcomes – across sectors, evaluating the quality of policy formulation and capacity to achieve multi-dimensional objectives. Following on from our Trade Citizen Juries in 2023, deliberative exercises on trade also form a crucial part of this collaborative research.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct high quality research in politics, public policy and/or trade law and policy. Clear communication of research in writing and verbally, commensurate with career stage, is a key skill. The candidate should demonstrate the capability to make theoretical and empirical contributions to the Stakeholder Participation project. Candidates should also demonstrate knowledge of the UK system of devolution and the interaction between devolution and UK foreign policy. Qualitative research skills and experience are necessary, experience of quantitative research (survey design and analysis) and/or socio-legal analysis is welcome. The successful candidate will undertake a range of research, knowledge exchange and dissemination activities associated with the project.
Candidates wishing to have an informal discussion in advance of submitting an application should contact Dr Ludivine Petetin at [email protected] .
This post is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term for 18 months and is available from June 2024.
