The Division of Population Medicine within the College of Biomedical Life Sciences seeks to recruit a highly motivated Research Associate to work on the TIC-TOC (Targeted Intensive Community-based campaign To Optimise Cancer awareness: feasibility of a symptom awareness campaign to support the Multidisciplinary/Rapid Diagnostic Centre referral pathway in a socioeconomically deprived area) project. The successful candidate will play a key role in conducting and delivering the day-to-day research activity for the project and with intervention delivery. They will be committed to engaging with the diverse communities in Wales to improve cancer outcomes. The post-holder will join a multi-disciplinary team working on a mixed-methods project to test the feasibility of delivering and evaluating a vague cancer symptom awareness campaign in an area of high socioeconomic deprivation.
The post-holder will be interested in, and have a willingness, to conduct research with members of the public and healthcare professionals using a variety of research methods. Data collection methods used by the post-holder during the project will include quantitative survey data, quantitative clinical data qualitative interviews and qualitative focus groups. The post holder will have experience of applying these methods and using the appropriate analytical techniques. They will have a keen interest in research about early detection of cancer and excellent communication/organisational skills. This position may be suitable for someone with a background in an appropriate area of biomedical and life sciences e.g. psychology, social sciences, epidemiology, or medicine.

The role is based in the Division of Population Medicine, in Cardiff University’s School of Medicine. Specifically, the post holder will work within the Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis section. They will contribute to the research record of the School through commitment to carrying out research that will lead to publications in high quality academic journals, pursuing excellence in research and inspiring others to do the same.

This post is part time (21 hours per week), available from 1st November 2020 and fixed term until 31st May 2023.

Salary: £33,797 - £40,322 per annum, pro-rata for hours worked (Grade 6).
