Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century.

Colleagues at Cardiff University have discovered over 27 risk genes for dementia which implicate the innate immune response in determining a person’s susceptibility to developing Alzheimer’s disease. Building on their world-class expertise in genetics and immunology, the UK DRI at Cardiff University will use these discoveries as the starting point for understanding disease mechanisms and producing new therapies.

Professor Vincent Dion has recently received a prestigious professorship from the Academy of Medical Sciences to develop novel approaches to treat expanded CAG/CTG repeat disorders, including Huntington’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. Specifically, we are developing innovative ways of silencing expanded CAG/CTG repeat-containing genes using epigenome editing. To assist in furthering these projects, the team is seeking a driven, hard working, and ambitious postdoctoral fellow.

Salary is offered at £33,797- £40,322 per annum based on skills and experience.

The post is funded for two years in the first instance.
