Research Associate - Bioinformatician (Single Cell Genomics)(Fixed Term)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Job Type: Permanent
Deadline: 15 Aug 2021

The Wellcome Trust - Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is an international centre of excellence for stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Scientists in the Institute collaborate to advance our knowledge of various stem cell types and to perform pioneering work in translational research areas, providing the foundation for new medical treatments (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/ ).

A Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Walid Khaled to work on a collaborative project with Dr. John Marioni (CRUK, CI). The WTKLAB uses multidisciplinary approaches to understand epithelial cell fate decisions during normal development and early stages of tumourigenesis (Bach et al 2017, Lazarus et 2018, Hadi et al 2020 and Bach and Pensa et al 2021). The lab is now focusing on how the whole tissue responds to tumour initiation. In particular, what is the role of the cell of origin and the stroma/immune microenvironment in shaping the developmental trajectory of nascent cancer cells. To achieve this the lab is recruiting a post-doctoral scientist with a computational biology background to drive the use of single cell genomics to tackle these questions. The project will build on long established collaborations with the Marioni group and candidates will have the opportunity to be an active member of both laboratories. The post holder is expected to lead on the design, execution and analysis of multi-modal single cell genomic studies.

*Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded, appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 36 months in the first instance (funded by CRUK).

The closing date is 15th August 2021.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Walid T. Khaled, ([email protected] ) or Dr. John Marioni ([email protected] )
