The Medical Research Council Toxicology Unit is an internationally renowned institution focused on the delivery of field-changing mechanistic insights into toxicology and disease.
We are looking to appoint a Research Associate Bioinformatician to join the Willis and Lilley (Dept. Biochemistry) labs to provide support in data processing, statistical analysis, integration and visualisation of transcriptomics and proteomics datasets, particularly data generated from the application of methods to interrogate the RNA binding proteome (doi: 10.1038/s41587-018-0001-2) and subcellular transcriptomics
(doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2022.01.24.477541 ) and proteomics (doi: 10.1038/s41467-021-26000-9).
Training in appropriate methods and in-house computational tools will be given.
A degree in a scientific or computational discipline is required together with a postgraduate degree (PhD) preferably in a computational discipline such as bioinformatics, computational biology/chemistry, computer science or quantitative biology. Experience in consulting with non-computational research scientists on experimental design and bioinformatics analysis and/or publication record of meaningful analysis roles in peer reviewed articles is highly desirable.
Basic programming or scripting skills are required together with experience in computational analysis of high-throughput molecular biology experiments.
Knowledge and ability to work in at least one of the following areas is essential:
- Sequence bioinformatics - DNA/RNA alignment tools, annotation of sequences/regions with genomic features, genome browsers/visualization
- Mass-spectrometry data analysis - processing of proteomics/metabolomics data, feature identification
- Programming/scripting - software development, algorithm development, experience with cluster computing
- General Statistical Data analysis - application of statistical tests and models, e.g., data normalization and clustering; familiarity with R/Bioconductor packages
