Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 18 Feb 2024

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate/Bioinformatician to work on the BRC infectious diseases theme and join Prof Ravi Gupta's group, based within the new Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (CITIID). The Gupta lab has led pioneering work into SARS-CoV-2 variants and within host evolution, in addition to molecular virology. The lab has a long standing interest in HIV evolution and drug resistance.  The BRC infection theme more broadly examines and addresses seasonal respiratory viral infection and antimicrobial resistance/transmission. The post holder will perform translational research in line with the BRC theme and design and execute translational research projects around viral evolution and bacterial AMR using existing and novel pipelines/analysis tools. In particular the post holder will aim to identify novel and known drug resistance determinants in viruses and bacteria and to perform cluster and transmission analysis that will inform clinical and public health policies.

The work will be pursued in the Cambridge Institute for Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (CITIID). This building with state-of-the-art facilities, is housed on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus alongside the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute.

The role holder will have experience of using computational approaches to analyse diverse virus and bacterial genomic datasets. This opportunity requires scripting ability (at least one of Perl, Python or Bash), familiarity with short and long read sequence data processing and analysis, and relevant statistical understanding, preferably within the R environment.  Additional duties will include providing ad hoc bioinformatics support and advice for researchers within the group.

Applicants will be expected to work closely and interactively with colleagues in different disciplines within the lab, have good communications skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Informal enquiries can be sent to Prof Ravi Gupta.   [email protected]
