Applications are invited for a 1-year postdoctoral Research Associate position in the group of Dr Shuzo Sakata in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. This position is funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Our group has been investigating state-dependent and cell-type-specific information processing in the brain by combining a range of techniques, including in vivo high-density electrophysiological recording, calcium imaging, optogenetics, behavioural analysis and computational approaches.

In this project, entitled “dysregulation of microglial calcium dynamics by amyloid pathology and sleep disruption”, we will establish an experimental platform to investigate how microglia change their state by amyloid pathology and sleep deprivation.

A successful candidate must have a PhD* in Neuroscience or related fields. In addition to peer-reviewed publications, strong experience with coding (MATLAB and LabVIEW) and in vivo experiments including tapered fibre-based photometry and optogenetics is essential for this post.

*Whilst a Research Associate is ideally sought for this position, applications from candidates who have recently completed a PhD viva are acceptable.

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Dr Shuzo Sakata, Reader ([email protected] ).

Formal interviews for this post will be held on Monday, 10 June 2024.
