We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join a team of Dr Margarida Ruas based at the Target Discovery Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
You will be responsible for maintaining mammalian cell cultures, including immortalized and iPSC-derived cell lines. You will carry out construction of expression vectors using a variety of molecular cloning techniques, plasmid DNA purifications, production of lentivirus for mammalian cell transduction, evaluation of protein localization using confocal microscopy, and other cell- and protein-based assays. You will determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses, adapt experimental protocols and contribute to wider project planning. Additionally, you will contribute to scientific reports, data and journal articles and the presentation of data/papers.
To be successful in this role, it is essential that you hold a degree in Biochemistry, Cell/Molecular Biology or related subject, together with a relevant laboratory experience. You will demonstrate an enthusiasm and aptitude for experimental work and possess knowledge of molecular biology techniques (e.g. cloning, PCR and site-directed mutagenesis) and immuno-based techniques (e.g. western blotting and immunofluorescence). You will be able to work flexibly and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Having experience of adapting experimental protocols and selecting between experimental methodologies is highly desirable.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
