Research Assistant

We are looking for a research assistant to join our team working on a project focussing on the detention of people living with dementia under the Mental Health Act 1983. 


About the role 

We are seeking as highly motivated research assistant to join a project funded by Avon & Wiltshire Partnership Mental Health Trust entitled, “The use of the Mental Health Act 1983 for people with dementia: A scoping study focussing on decision-making under the Act”. 

The project team are conducting a systematic review and pilot data collection exploring this issue. The pilot data collection will involve interviews and focus groups with people living with dementia, their family carers as well as mental health professionals and advocates. You will be asked to contribute to activities for one or both tasks. 

You will join a small team made up of academics from social work, sociology, and law. 

The role is offered on a part-time (3.7 hours per week) fixed term basis with an excepted duration of 3 months. 


About you 
  • A background in or aptitude towards working in social sciences research.
  • An ability to organise and prioritise own workload to meet required deadlines.
  • Have excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Have experience in communicating competently with people with mental health problems or dementia and their families.
