Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join Professor Brownstone’s lab, which uses a variety of tools to study circuits: from the study of biophysical properties in reduced preparations to the study of animal behaviour in targeted knock-out mice. They have identified a number of key circuits, including neural circuits underlying hand grasp function.
The primary responsibility of the post holder will be to perform immunohistological analyses and assist with mouse colony management.
The post is available immediately and is funded by a grant from the Medical Research Council for one year in the first instance.
Key Requirements
Applicants must have a BSc in a Biomedical subject (preferably Neuroscience- related), or equivalent qualification, or substantial relevant experience.   General understanding of the health and safety requirements for all laboratory work, and experience with immunohistochemistry, tissue sectioning, including use of cryostat and/or microtome is essential. Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting, excellent oral and written communication skills, a meticulous approach to practical work and record keeping are also required. Knowledge of and experience in confocal microscopy and experience with handling mice and/or knowledge of animal husbandry is desirable.
