Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Greek and Latin at UCL is looking to make an appointment of an Arabic-speaking research assistant with database skills (Excel and Filemaker), to construct a database of archaeological objects and plans found at an excavation in Iraq on the basis of Arabic-language documentation. This will contribute towards an English-language publication of the results of this excavation.
Duties and responsibilities include work on the construction of a relational database using Filemaker. Participate in online and in-person meetings with project participants based in Britain. Participate in online meetings with project-participants based in Iraq.
The position will be 0.4 FTE (2 days a week), will run for 6 months initially from January 2022 and is funded by a Small Research Grant from the British Academy.
Key Requirements
Construct a relational database of finds from an Iraqi excavation using Filemaker on the basis of Arabic-language documentation. Advise non-Arabic speaking researchers on interpretation of Arabic-language documentation. Maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations, carry out their duties in a resource efficient way and actively support UCL’s Sustainability Strategy, policies and objectives within the remit of their role. Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager.
