The Research Assistant will provides technical and operational support to the Chief Investigator and the team to support the research activity. This includes preparing relevant materials in collaboration with team members, performing fundamental aspects of research work, and facilitating the efficient operation of the research laboratory by providing essential technical and operational support.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to kick start their research career and gain experience in basic and translation cardiovascular biology at the Cardiac Research Laboratory.

Your key responsibilities will be to

  • assist with human tissue handling and processing as part of the Biobanking program
  • participate in standard lab work, including DNA /RNA/protein extractions
  • undertake microscopy (immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence)
  • provide technical and operational research support to the greater research team
  • provide research administrative support researchers and laboratory staff

About you

  • has completed or working towards the completion of an Honours or Masters Degree
  • has laboratory experience and demonstrated understanding of laboratory protocols as above
  • experience in handling and processing human tissue is desirable
  • previous work experience in university research, public health and or areas of cardiovascular research is highly desirable
  • has excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • has a working understanding of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation, including Safe Laboratory Practices.
