About the opportunity

Unique opportunity to join an established research team based at the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital, in collaboration with the Charles Perkins Centre University of Sydney as a research assistant.

The CardioSleep research program is focused on the link between sleep-disordered breathing and range of cardiovascular diseases and includes aspects of diagnosis and treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Some of the projects involve collaborations with other centres in Australia and overseas. The work may also involve activities at the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • have a role in the conduct of research studies including patient recruitment, obtaining consent and their adherence to research protocol, and associated data collection and analysis for concurrent research studies undertaken
  • understand and maintain a working knowledge of Study Protocols, assist with submissions to the Ethics Committee, collection of data which may also include respiratory testing, anthropometry, blood pressure, biological measurement, cardiovascular measurements
  • keeping clinical trial coordinator and postdoctoral researchers informed with research updates. Maintain communication with participants, their relatives and carers
  • make decisions in accordance with health service policies and procedures and in accordance with research protocols. Escalate issues to the Chief investigator or appropriate parties when needed.

About you

  • have a bachelor of Science Degree, with or without Honours
  • experience in clinical research, ideally with experience in sleep and/or cardiovascular research
  • skills and experience in physiological measurements
  • conceptual and innovative problem-solving skills for managing conflicting priorities, critical thinking and the ability to provide support for the development and implementation of research in a health care setting
  • strong interpersonal communication, negotiation, and influencing skills which demonstrates capacity to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • ability to work autonomously and within a team environment, communicating effectively and clearly with other research team members. Good written and verbal communication skills with a confident manner
  • demonstrated computer skills in a research environment, including Microsoft Office and statistical software packages.
