Continuum Thermomechanics of Phase Transformations, Material Stability and High Throughput Ab Initio Material Simulation
Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in Thermo-mechanics of Phase Transformations, Material Stability and High Throughput Ab initio Material Simulation in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 515779), to commence as soon as possible and not later than October 31, 2022, on a three-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes. The University of Hong Kong has a highly ranked engineering school and an active Mechanical Engineering Programme. The Department employs about 30 full-time faculty members and has well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support. Information about the Department can be obtained at http://www.mech.hku.hk.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or a related engineering field with primary focus on theory and simulation of the Mechanics of Materials. The candidate must have expertise in the fields of continuum thermomechanics, material stability and/or bifurcation theory and ab initio simulation of material properties. Expertise in code development in Python, C++/FORTRAN and prior experience in large scale/high performance computing are required. The appointee will work in a close collaboration with other researchers in the group and is also expected to develop and contribute high throughput workflows for ab intio and molecular simulations for collaborative research. Previous teaching experience is a plus. Those with the capability to initiate collaborative projects with researchers in Hong Kong, strong motivation and willingness to engage in innovative teaching schemes like flipped classroom and e-Learning will be preferred. They should also have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and an excellent command of English.
