We welcome applications for this exciting new post from those with relevant knowledge and experience in researching modelling and simulation capabilities for aircraft flight dynamics and aeroelastics.

About the Role

This post will be contributing to research on a project as part of a large team.  It involves research activities within the Simulation Dynamics & Control Group within the Centre for Aeronautics, especially focusing on the development and management of in-house code for the integration of aerodynamics and rigid-body/flexible structural components, to simulate the coupling between these and the flight dynamics of an aircraft within a framework.

About You

To be appointed at Research Fellow level, you will be educated to doctoral level with a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related subject (or close to completion).  Alternatively, you will have a relevant Masters in order to be appointed at Research Assistant level. In addition to the knowledge required, you will have a strong track record in the modelling and simulation of complex systems (such as aircraft).  The role will involve the validation of codes and methods against flight test data, handling qualities assessment via simulation and pilot-in-the-loop flight trials to assess the framework and its integration with new methods.

You will be organised and proficient at planning project deliverables, enjoy giving presentations, and be able to assist in project integration workshops and other meetings.  With excellent communication skills, you will be a good team player, and have the ability to cope with pressure. Software programming is also an important skill for this post along with the ability to demonstrate self-motivation, perseverance, and initiative.
