Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant / Junior Epidemiologist to support the research activities of Professor Amanda Cross and the Cancer Screening and Prevention Research Group (CSPRG, www.csprg.org.uk ) based at the St Mary’s Campus of Imperial College London, Paddington.

You will work within an internationally renowned multidisciplinary group researching the prevention and early detection of gastrointestinal (oesophageal, stomach and colorectal) cancers, some of the biggest cancer killers in the world. Joining a friendly, highly motivated team, you will contribute to research projects funded by the UK Government and charities, including Cancer Research UK.

Under the supervision of Professor Cross and Dr Gwen Murphy, you will contribute to designing and analysing clinical and epidemiological studies, and you will assist with preparing these studies for publication. You will familiarise yourself with research currently being undertaken by the CSPRG.

We are seeking a motivated professional with a background in epidemiology. You will hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. You should have proven research skills and experience in epidemiology and the analysis and reporting of research datasets.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Contribute to the epidemiological work required for the completion of studies in the CSPRG portfolio.
  • Undertake literature reviews for initiating projects and for interpretation of results of studies. 
  • Record and analyse data and communicate the results at scientific meetings and through journal publications.
  • Contribute to the preparation of study reports and grant applications.
  • Attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary.

Essential requirements

  • MPH/MSc specialising in Epidemiology or a related discipline, or equivalent.
  • An understanding of epidemiological and statistical concepts and techniques that apply to a range of study designs.
  • Experience using statistical software.
  • Ability to contribute to discussions about epidemiological issues.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed.
