Research Assistant in Targeted Drug Delivery Validation Engineering (Fixed Term)

Two vacant Research Assistant positions exist, in the Department of Engineering, to work on the development of new highly targeted methods to deliver therapies to tumours. This is funded by an EPSRC funded research grant (EPSRC IRC on Targeted Delivery for Hard-to-Treat Cancers, EP/S009000/1). The post holders will be located at the University of Cambridge in the group of Prof. Ronan Daly (https://www.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/research/fiam/ ), and working closely with teams across Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Glasgow, Birmingham, Nottingham, Liverpool and Strathclyde.

The successful applicants will be supporting the development of new targeted delivery devices for hard-to-treat cancers (https://www.teddy.eng.cam.ac.uk/ ) through further development of protocols for existing experimental apparatus monitoring drug delivery through nanoparticles and implants, and analysis of materials. Experience or basic knowledge of experimental protocol development, hardware interfacing with Python programming and material characterisation would be an advantage. Experience within the field of medical device design would also be an advantage.

Key responsibilities include developing, documenting and validating research protocols for a range of drug delivery techniques, developing simple control systems to help with experimental control (e.g. flow rate control, temperature control, etc.); designing, executing and analysing experiments; documenting, presenting and publishing research results, and engaging, interacting and collaborating with the broader team.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: Hold a Bachelor's degree in an engineering, medical/biomedical, nanomaterials, natural sciences, or computer science related field; a background in some of the following key areas, design and validation, device prototyping, medical/biomedical devices, nanoparticles, analytical chemistry, hydrogels, rheology, optical/electron microscopy; a good ability to work across a multi-disciplinary team.

Salary Range: Research Assistant: £29,605 - £33,966

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2024 in the first instance.
