Location: Nottingham, SCOTLAND
Job Type: Contract
Deadline: 04 Nov 2021

Additional Information: 6 x full-time, fixed term contracts until 31.07.22.

We are deeply proud of our academic community. Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is a diverse and dynamic learning environment, defined by a shared sense of respect for all its people. Our mission is to be bold, to do the right things and to change lives, and our academics are key to realising those goals. Their work continues to reinforce our credentials as an award-winning university, and a research centre of excellence.

Our continued success — underpinned by the number of prestigious national awards we’ve won — has hinged on two commitments: forging excellent partnerships around the world and harnessing the talents of all our people. We secured a ‘Gold’ rating in the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework; received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for our pioneering research; and in 2018, we were the first UK university to sign the Social Mobility Pledge, further demonstrating our commitment to ensuring ‘success for all’. NTU is a university at the peak of its powers, but we know we can still go even further. That’s why we’re now looking for new, passionate, ambitious people to join our community.

The School of Social Sciences is the largest School at Nottingham Trent University and includes NTU Psychology, one of the largest departments of Psychology in the country. We have been employing a team of research assistants to contribute to, and participate in, the vibrant research culture within the School’s research centres. These positions have contributed significantly to post-holders’ career development as previous post-holders have successfully secured funded PhD places or moved on to employment in externally funded research projects at NTU or elsewhere. We are now inviting applications for six full-time Research Assistants at Grade E. These are fixed-term posts spanning December 2021 to July 31, 2022. Continuation of the posts is possible (subject to funding) but not guaranteed.

The post-holders will be allocated research duties on a variety of exciting and impactful research projects led by academic staff within the School’s research centres. Post-holders will have access to a wide range of equipment (depending on safety restrictions) and exposure to the considerable breadth of topics and methods represented within the School. The post-holders will make considerable use of their existing skills and will also receive training where necessary. There may also be opportunities to work jointly with fellow research assistants. Duties will include assisting in the research design process, participant recruitment, data collection, literature review, data collation and analysis, and report writing.

You will have demonstrated excellence at a level equivalent to an undergraduate degree (2.1 or higher in a Social Science degree such as Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Education), have good knowledge of core areas of a Social Science subject, and have experience with conducting research from conception through to dissemination. Advanced knowledge of a specialist area reflecting the focus of our research centres, or experience with specialist research equipment or methodological approaches, would be a benefit.
