We welcome applications from prospective Research Assistants in Simulation and AI with relevant knowledge and experience, to work on various industrial and research agency funded projects.

About the Role

Cranfield University has been awarded several prestigious research grants on simulation, AI, digital twins, autonomy, and advanced air mobility. We are recruiting a Research Assistant to work under the umbrella of our general research vector in autonomy and AI. You will contribute to the research activities of the Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-physical Systems on a variety of exciting projects. You will be expected to collaborate with the existing staff working in the area and have communications and meetings with our collaborators within the university or in other international universities.

About You

You will be educated to M.Sc. level in a relevant subject and have experience of management research using both qualitative and quantitative methods, along with excellent communication skills. You are expected to have excellent software and programming skills covering a wide range of tools in simulation, synthetics, visualization, human-machine interfaces and applied artificial intelligence. As a part of your work, you are expected to develop simulation environments including visualization, human-machine interfaces, embed AI driven algorithms utilizing a wide range of available state-of-art toolchains. Previous demonstrated experience and expertise on the above points is a must.

Our reputation for leading in the field of autonomy and AI, advanced air mobility, ATM/UTM, autonomous vehicle systems, applied artificial intelligence and control engineering has been established through more than thirty years of research into this field.

We are recipients of several prestigious grants from industry and research agencies including EPSRC, Horizon Europe, Innovate UK and more. As a part of these grants, we are utilizing novel synthetic simulations including air vehicles with higher fidelity models as to train AI-driven learning algorithms. As such these synthetic simulations also serve as the basis of digital-twins that can be updated through real-time or near-real-time algorithms during actual operations. As such, these synthetic environments can be further used as ATM/UTM use case-scenario simulation and serve as the link to co-simulation and co-testing with some elements being virtual and with some elements being real.

We work in partnership with industrial clients and research organisations to provide high quality training, research, development and consultancy to meet the challenges of these competitive markets.
