Research Assistant in Mass Spectrometry and Lipid Analysis (Fixed Term)

We are seeking a research assistant who has experience in mass spectrometry or analytical chemistry to contribute to ongoing projects in the core Metabolomics and Lipidomics laboratory. A major part of the work will be to investigate the molecular basis of neurodegeneration using a combination of cell culture models and single cell lipidomics. This is a joint project in the laboratories of Dr. Albert Koulman and Dr. Emmanouil Metzakopian funded by the Michael J Fox Foundation (MJFF, https://www.michaeljfox.org/ ), and will enable the successful applicant to join an international network using innovative approaches to tackle major challenges in human health.

You will work with high resolution mass spectrometry for detailed lipid and metabolite analysis and help to generate and maintain primary neural cell cultures, perform fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) and help to develop liquid extraction surface analysis and high resolution mass spectrometry methods for single cell. You will also help to ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory.

To be considered for this position, you must 1) possess a university degree or MSc in biology or a related field and demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of cell culture and molecular biology, 2) have demonstrable laboratory or industry experience in mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry or primary cell culture, 3) be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, and 4) possess organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. The ideal applicant would have some technical expertise with mass spectrometry analysis. Experience in laboratory management, cell culture, and bioinformatics would also be advantageous.
