We are seeking a Research Assistant with experience in laboratory and molecular microbiology skills to join an established multi-disciplinary team as part of Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) consortium. 

As our research assistant, you will provide laboratory support to a research group and collaborators investigating the molecular epidemiology and rapid diagnosis of a range of bacterial pathogens, including Mycobacterium species, Staphylococcus aureus, important Enterobacteriaceae (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae), Clostridium difficile and Candida auris, amongst others. We use cutting edge whole genome sequencing technologies (Illumina, Nanopore) of single isolates, clinical specimens (including direct from sample testing), and environmental samples to investigate these research questions. 

You will undertake culture of bacteria from human, animal and environmental samples, and participate in laboratory-based method development, DNA preparation and sequencing. 

You will hold a degree in microbiology or a related subject with experience in laboratory and molecular microbiology. You will have strong communication skills, together with an enquiring and flexible attitude and an interest in working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines. 

The post is full-time and fixed-term for up to 18 months.
