Fixed-term for 24 months
Full time: 35 hours per week
The Opportunity:
This Research Associate position will contribute to the recently launched multi-partner project “Co-design to deliver Scalable Tidal Stream Energy” (CoTide, https://cotide.ac.uk/ ), one of the largest academic investments made in the UK in tidal energy research. This position will – as part of much wider engineering co-design activities - focus on the design, commissioning and experimental testing of tidal energy converters at the School of Engineering’s FloWave (https://www.flowave.eng.ed.ac.uk ) combined wave and current test facility. You will be based within a globally unique facility that has a decade-long track record in successfully testing a wide range of renewable energy technologies including floating offshore wind, wave and tidal energy systems.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week) for 24 months, however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A PhD in Engineering or Applied Physics, or a clearly related area.
- Experience of research in one or more of the following areas: mechanical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, experimental testing or a closely related area.
- Experience designing and testing engineering systems.
- Being able to deliver outputs in a truly multi-disciplinary consortium that puts co-design at the centre of its research.
