The Institute for Research in Education (IREd) at the University of Bedfordshire is seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic candidate for the role of Research Assistant to work on an evaluation project of local charity Schoolreaders , just celebrating its 10th anniversary. IREd is a research institute dedicated to improving the lives of people and embraces social justice as a key principle.  The project seeks to develop evidence of the value of how Schoolreaders supports the development of readers in primary schools through its deployment of adult volunteers to support children develop their reading skills.  The key aspect of the role involves visiting a number of local schools to develop an in-depth, evidence based understanding of the impact of Schoolreaders.

The part-time Research Assistant will undertake a range of research tasks including: working closely with the team at Schoolreaders; reviewing literature, visiting schools to undertake interviews with Head Teachers, teachers, teaching assistants, volunteers and relevant students; producing transcripts: quantitative and qualitative data analysis; contributing to the final Report for Schoolreaders. Should the post holder wish to, there will be an opportunity to contribute to publications from the project.

The post holder should bring proven understanding of basic research and some understanding of the education system, together with strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and flexibly.

The candidate will have a degree or equivalent and Masters level is desirable.
