The Laboratory for Internet Computing (LINC - http://linc.ucy.ac.cy ), Department of Computer Science at University of Cyprus, announces one (1) Research Assistant position for the European projects, RAINBOW and SYNERGY.
Rainbow is an open trusted fog computing platform facilitating the deployment, orchestration and management of scalable, heterogenous and secure IoT services and cross-clouds apps. Rainbow falls within the bigger vision of developing a platform enabling users to remotely control the infrastructure that is running, potentially, on hundreds of edge devices (i.e.: wearables) thousands of fog nodes in a factory building or flying in the sky (i.e.: drones), and millions of vehicles travelling in a certain area or across Europe.
Synergy develops a highly effective Big Energy Data Platform and AI Analytics Marketplace, accompanied by big data-enabled applications for the totality of electricity value chain stakeholders (altogether integrated in the SYNERGY Big Data-driven EaaS Framework). SYNERGY will be validated in 5 large-scale demonstrators, in Greece, Spain, Austria, Finland and Croatia involving diverse actors and data sources, heterogeneous energy assets, varied voltage levels and network conditions and spanning different climatic, demographic and cultural characteristics.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates should be graduates in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- Experience with data of different volume, velocity and variety, coming up with the right questions, experimenting with different machine learning algorithms.
- Strong knowledge of modern programming and scripting languages (esp. Python)
- Hands-on experience with big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Hadoop)
- Solid knowledge of data science tools (e.g. NLTK) and machine learning libraries (e.g. MLlib, Scikit, TensorFlow, etc.)
- Knowledge of Software Engineering techniques and tools (Agile development, Github, SVN, UX).
- Strong background in Distributed Computing and Web Technologies (HTTP, Javascript, HTML).
- Candidates must have an excellent command of English language both written and verbal, as well as good interpersonal skills.
Additional qualifications
- Experience in Cloud platforms (OpenStack, VMWare), Containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will join the research team of the Laboratory for Internet Computing (LINC) and will perform cutting-edge research in the area of Cloud Computing. The Applicant’s duties will include i) the completion of the project work packages, ii) cooperation with both international groups and the rest of the research team of the Laboratory for Internet Computing, iii) scientific contribution to the themes of the research program iv) writing scientific papers and technical reports in English language as well as presentations at international scientific forums, and v) consistency in the timelines agreed and accountability in the management of all technical aspects of the laboratory and the research team.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position is for full time for a period of one year, with a 3-month probationary period. 13th salary and medical coverage are not provided .
The monthly gross salary is in the range of€1305,48 - €1740,64, depending on qualifications and experience. Employee contributions will be deducted from this amount.
