Research Assistant in Community Assets in the Liverpool City Region Social Economy Grade 8 (0.8 fte)

Updated: about 1 month ago
Location: Liverpool, ENGLAND
Deadline: 27 Mar 2024

Our research into the Liverpool City Region Social Economy aims to support the wide range of social enterprises that exist in the region. There are some 2,000 social enterprises working across the city-region often in low-income communities that suffer from a range of social and economic problems. This is an opportunity to join us as a Research Associate at the University, in our search for socially innovative solutions to many of those problems.

In our latest work on community asset ownership in the Liverpool City Region we recommend a transfer of a small proportion of under-utilised assets now owned by anchor institutions to social enterprises. The role will be an important part of a team that involves university researchers and social economy practitioners as we seek to establish a community asset transfer company to facilitate such a transfer. The work involved will lead to cutting edge social innovation that has the potential to impact on wealth and job creation in the poorest parts of the city region, thereby having a profound impact on economic inclusion and poverty.

The post is to be based in the offices of our partner organisation, Kindred-LCR to enable real time involvement in the development of the project. Duties will include desk-based research, liaison with strategic partners and project advisory group, project planning, organising and attending meetings with stakeholders, and support with the writing of reports and papers.

Candidates should possess a good first degree or equivalent experience in a social economy or business environment. A postgraduate degree and social science research training would be desirable although not essential.

The position is 0.8 FTE (4 days per week) for 12-months on a salary commensurate with the role of Research Associate in a Russell Group university.

Informal enquiries can be made to Alan Southern at the University of Liverpool Management School: [email protected]

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received
