About the Role

The Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant on a variable hours basis to provide research support for the Economic Policy Network (EPN).

You will join a team of researchers, research assistants, and several senior economists who are engaged with the EPN on a call down basis for specific projects, and will work closely with the EPN Coordinator.

You will take responsibility for several short-term projects at once, as the EPN team responds to requests for assistance from its stakeholder group. These requests will be many and varied, with differing levels of complexity and requiring differing inputs and solutions. The team operates on a quick turnaround timescale with firm adherence to clear follow-up activity timelines.

The focus of this role will be: 1) industrial policy paper review; 2) contribution to similar or other assignments on economic policy challenges in line with the objectives of EPN@Oxford; and 3) general support for the EPN.

You will also provide support and mentoring to the more junior members of the research assistants’ team. A key part of this role will be upskilling the EPN structure as needed to develop a pipeline of engagement opportunities, and provide programme and operational management support to the EPN Director and EPN Coordinator as required

This contract is fixed-term for 4 months, and is structured to provide up to 20 hours of support per week to the EPN.

About You

You will have the ability to carry out independent research, excellent skills in policy research and a demonstrated ability to take responsibility for driving new projects to completion. You should have excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail. You will be a dedicated individual who is skilled at managing several time sensitive tasks at once, and who is able to keep a steady focus on the end goal. A Master’s degree in economics, public policy or development studies is also essential.

Application Process

The closing date for applications is 12:00 noon (UK time) on Wednesday 3 January 2024.
