Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position in the Department of Oncology of the University of Cambridge. The successful applicant will work to support the research activities in the laboratory of Dr Daniel Munoz-Espin, Group Leader at Early Cancer Institute (ECI) and co-Director of the Thoracic Cancer Programme.

Dr Munoz-Espin's research programme aims to understand the mechanisms and processes that contribute to lung cancer initiation and progression, and how to use this knowledge for the development of more efficient therapeutic strategies in precision medicine. The role holder will be responsible for supporting research projects and will work within a larger group of PhD students and Postdocs. The requirements and major roles associated with the job will include:

  • Experience in managing transgenic mouse colonies and procedures (e.g. administration routes, genotyping, anaesthesia, imaging and necropsies). It is essential to have an active PIL (ABC Modules) Homo Office licence

    • Support in performing cell cultures, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, RT-PCR, and other molecular biology techniques

    • Lab managing skills (e.g. maintaining records and databases, such as the use of Mouse Colony Managing System, MCMS)

    • In addition to possessing a strong aptitude for scientific research, the ideal candidate will have good communication skills and will work well in a team

    • Although the focus of the post is to provide research support to more experienced researchers, there will be opportunities to pursue an independent research project.

The successful applicant will be considered for publication authorships resulting from their work, and will have active access to genetically-engineered murine models of lung cancer, cellular cancer models, and also to primary cells from human tissue samples in collaboration with Royal Papworth Hospital and Cambridge University Hospitals.

Our location at Cambridge Biomedical Campus affords our members ready access to state-of-the-art research equipment, clinical facilities, and the opportunity to forge collaborations with world-class laboratory scientists and clinicians.
