Research Assistant/Fellow in Navigation and Maritime Cyber
£30,942 - £33,797 per annum - Grade 6

University of Plymouth (UoP) has an opportunity to be part of Maritime Cybersecurity, a relatively new multidisciplinary niche area of security and maritime. Plymouth, with a pedigree of existing research in this area, is a unique opportunity to shape thinking and develop solutions that will have widespread effects in this growing and significant field.

Looking for a Navigation student interested in the navigation and human element in maritime cybersecurity and maritime cyber-risks.  This is to be a part of the last year of a three year EU Horizon 2020 project, Cyber-MAR see:

The University of Plymouth’s contribution is to develop maritime cyber risk frameworks, including economic risks if a cyber-attack were to occur.

  • The larger project has 13 partners with partners across Europe (Greece, France, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Italy, and UK).
  • The team at UoP consists of academics and research staff with specialisms in security, maritime, business, and more.
  • There are two roles existing contributing to the larger EU project: 1) in maritime cyber risk assessment feeding into econometric models and 2) maritime cybersecurity tools and training.
  • You should be able to assist in most research tasks that are more maritime related, and be willing to collaborate with partners.  Travel may occasionally be required if safe.

Candidates looking to fill this Maritime Cyber Risk or Maritime Cybersecurity role:

  • You should have a strong Navigation or research background in related fields.
  • You will have specialist knowledge Navigation and the maritime sector.
  • Ideally you will have experience or awareness on maritime systems and practices.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 1 year due to funding.
