The mission of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health.

About the role

The post-holder will undertake quantitative analysis, split across the following two core CPRU projects: Project on access to services related to adolescent mental health: the post-holder will conduct analyses of the enhanced ECHILD database to quantify inequalities in utilisation of services related to mental health for adolescents. Project on health, education and social care utilisation and costs across the life course for children with high needs: the postholder will work alongside a health economist on analyses of longitudinal trajectories of service use and costs over the life course, using the ECHILD database. The salary offered in this role is either at grade 6 (£37,332 - £39,980 per annum) or grade 7 (£42,099 - £50,585 per annum) depending on skills and experience and is funded until 31/07/2026 in the first instance.

About you

This post is suitable for a pre-doctoral (Grade 6) or postdoctoral researcher (Grade 7), trained in statistics, epidemiology, economics or equivalent, with experience of longitudinal methods. Experience with one or more of the administrative databases within the ECHILD database would be an advantage. This post offers an opportunity to gain experience of national, research for policy using a large administrative database. It is also a good opportunity to take a leading role in writing peer-reviewed publications that are relevant to national policy.
