We are looking for one highly skilled and motivated individual to work as a full-time research professional for a period of at least one year. The start date is subject to negotiation, but may be as early as 1 March 2022.

You will work with and be supervised by NUS Business School Professors Karsten Müller and Poorya Kabir. The projects you will most likely be working on two sets of topics: 1) financing at the firm-level: such as the role of financial constraints in firm policies, the effect of loan subsidies on firm outcomes, the macroeconomic consequences of credit booms and financial crises, the politics of financial regulation, and the role of social media in financial market and other outcomes. 2) household finance decisions, such as saving and consumption, investment in stocks, and mortgage decisions. 

You will work with us on a variety of tasks, including data collection and analysis, managing large data sets, performing numerical simulations, statistical programming and data visualization, conducting literature reviews, summarizing research findings and policy documents, and editing research papers. 

The position is based in Singapore.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will:

  • have a strong quantitative background (incl. statistics and econometrics); 
  • have strong programming skills (extensive experience with either Stata, R, or Python is a must);
  • be able to work independently to solve problems; and
  • have a long-term interest in pursuing research in economics and or finance.
  • be well organized and pays attention to details 

A background in economics is a plus, but not necessary—we welcome candidates with strong technical backgrounds who are looking for more exposure to economics and finance. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and self-directed, adept at learning new technical skills when needed.

  • Sample of code (ideally for same paper)
