The Division of Population Medicine within College of Biomedical Life Sciences seeks to recruit a highly motivated Research Assistant to work on the YESS (Yorkshire Enhanced Stop Smoking) study. The post-holder will join a multi-disciplinary team working on a trial to assess the efficacy of enhanced smoking cessation support during lung cancer screening. The successful candidate will play a key role in the qualitative process-evaluation for the project.
The post-holder will be interested in, and have a willingness, to conduct research with members of the public and healthcare professionals using qualitative research methods. The post holder will have knowledge and experience of applying qualitative data analysis techniques including thematic analysis and data triangulation. They will have a keen interest in research about early detection of cancer/prevention and excellent communication/organisational skills. This position may be suitable for someone with a background in an appropriate area of biomedical and life sciences e.g. psychology, social sciences, epidemiology, or medicine.

The role is based in the Division of Population Medicine, in Cardiff University’s School of Medicine. Specifically, the post holder will work within the Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis section. They will contribute to the research record of the School through commitment to carrying out research that will lead to publications in high quality academic journals, pursuing excellence in research and inspiring others to do the same.

This post is full time (35 hours per week), available from 01.06.2022 and fixed term until 30.04.2023.

Salary £27,924 – £32,344 per annum (Grade 5).
