Job Description

The successful candidate will work with A/P Darren Yeo Chong Jinn on freshwater ecology and biodiversity under a project on Large-scale biomanipulation feasibility trial/experiment for water quality and environmental management, based on food web dynamics and ecosystem stability in Singapore reservoirs.

The RAs will work under the direction of A/P Darren Yeo (PI) and Dr. Jeffrey Kwik (Co-PI); the main responsibilities of the position include: 

  • Conducting field studies in freshwater habitats involving fish, macroinvertebrate and plankton sampling 
  • Conducting laboratory based work involving sorting and processing of specimens and data collected during field work
  • Establishing and maintaining datasets related to the project
  • Data analyses and technical report/scientific paper writing
  • Carrying out administrative and other duties as required under the project/laboratory

Qualifications

Qualifications / Discipline:

Skills:

  • Good organizational skills and excellent attention to detail is essential
  • Possess leadership qualities, highly-motivated, responsible, and passion for research work
  • Independent, but also able to work well with others in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Physically fit for extended periods of field work in various tropical freshwater environments
  • Experience in electrofishing will be an advantage, but training will be provided if necessary
  • A valid Singapore Class 3 driving license is highly desirable
  • Some weekend flexibility may be required depending on exigencies of duty
  • Proficiency in software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe applications, R and MATLAB would be an advantage

Experience:  

  • Experience in data analysis (using R, MATLAB) and ArcGis would be an advantage
  • Prior experience in tropical freshwater ecology will be an advantage
