Post-transcriptional control of gene expression represents an exciting opportunity for new drug targeting. It is mediated by RNA binding proteins (RBPs) which regulate all aspects of RNA metabolism including splicing, mRNA translation, mRNA stability and localisation. Many cancers and neurodegenerative diseases are associated with altered expression of RNA binding proteins including members of the canonical translation machinery.
We are now looking to appoint a postdoctoral Research Associate with a high level of skill in RNA biology to join the group, led by Professor Anne Willis to work on a project investigating the role of elongation control in cancer and neurodegeneration. The project is funded by the Wellcome Trust for 12 months and will be ideal for a candidate with experience in RNA biology, RNA binding proteins, protein synthesis control.
Applicants must hold, or be in the final stages of obtaining, a PhD in a relevant discipline such as RNA Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, together with excellent communication and critical thinking skills are also essential.
Successful candidates who have not been awarded their PhD by the appointment date will be under-appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5) employed on a salary of £30,046. Upon award of the PhD the individual will be promoted to Research Associate (Grade 7, salary range: £32,816-£40,322).
