Job Type: Permanent
Deadline: 31 May 2024

This 10-month full-time postdoctoral position will investigate the phenotypic effects of plant 'persistent' viruses (e.g., endornaviruses and partitiviruses, which are inherited but not horizontally transmissible) using pepper plants (Capsicum annuum) as a model. The successful candidate will generate isogenic lines of pepper cultivars that are infected with, or free of, persistent viruses. They will determine the effects of persistent viruses on growth and seed production and interactions of the host with pathogenic agents, including pathogenic plant viruses, and abiotic stresses.

We are seeking candidates that are highly skilled in plant virology. Candidates will be expected to hold a PhD, or equivalent qualification in plant virology. The successful candidate will be primarily based in the Plant Sciences Department but will carry out some procedures in the Botanic Garden Plant Growth Facility.

The successful applicant will become an integral and valued member of a multi-disciplinary group and will be expected to have strong written and oral communication skills.

The successful candidates will be expected to design and carry out research both independently and as part of a team.
