Research Assistant and Laboratory Manager

The Chapman laboratory is looking to recruit a talented and highly-motivated research assistant. You will oversee the laboratory’s mouse colony and undertake research that involves assisting laboratory members in experiments and managing discrete parts of larger projects. You will also assist in general lab management and administration, executing and delegating general tasks among lab members as necessary, to ensure the general smooth running of the laboratory. You will work directly with Professor Chapman and his team, but will also work closely with other MRC Molecular Haematology Unit groups; including the Patel group, the WIMM FACS, transgenics and genome editing, all based at the WIMM.

You will hold a degree in Biological Sciences, along with some relevant research experience. It is essential that you currently hold, or have previously held, a Home Office Personal License (PIL), having completed the associated PIL training in working with laboratory mice. Previous experience in routine molecular biology including DNA cloning techniques, molecular genetics, cell culture, cell assays and related relevant analytic methodologies is also required. Excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize work to meet agreed schedules are also essential.

The post is available full time and is fixed-term until the 31/01/2022 in the first instance, funded by the Medical Research Council, and the Lister Institute for Preventative Medicine.
