Research Assistant (2D Materials)

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 16 Feb 2023

Job Description

The transfer of graphene remains one of the biggest bottlenecks toward applications and industrial use. Current methods induce contamination and cracks that hinder the performance of the final device and reduce reliability. This project aims at engineering the van der Waals interactions between the growth substrate and the graphene layer to overcome the above limitations and achieve dry transfer. We have developed a patented large-scale dry transfer method for graphene (Patent application WO 2016/126208 A1).

The successful candidate will:

  • Have the opportunity to learn the latest advancements in graphene and other 2D materials
  • Hands-on machine-assisted programmed transfer process.
  • Develop multifunctional and comprehensive wearable devices for wound sensing, healing, and management.
  • Have opportunities to engage/connect and gain exposure to stakeholders including large medical and other globally leading brands.
  • Participate and contribute to top-level scientific manuscripts and important journals that can make a big impact on society.

Qualifications

  • To understand the VDW interactions and adhesion at the substrate-film interface and to explore novel methods toward dry, clean, and high throughput transfer processes. The candidate will be able to use our graphene pilot line to match these objectives and contribute to the group’s proof-of-concept demonstrators.
  • Master’s degree or Honours Degree in Material Science, Physics, Nanoscience, and Nanotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Preferably some experience in scientific/research work (e.g., through final year projects or undergraduate project experiences)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
