ABOUT THE ROLE

The Wellcome Trust funded MAGENTA project at Swansea University, addresses a critical gap in understanding how climate-related factors especially heat impact maternal and neonatal health, particularly in deprived communities in Wales and London. We seek to recruit a Research Analyst - GIS to work within a multi-disciplinary team based at Swansea university.

This trans-disciplinary data-linkage and biological sampling study aims to understand the effects of heat exposure during pregnancy, considering socio-demographic factors, housing qualities, and other environmental influences. By combining large-scale data analysis with biological sampling, MAGENTA aims to provide comprehensive insights into the interplay between environmental factors and health outcomes, potentially leading to better informed public health strategies and policies.

We are recruiting a team of data scientists, geographers, statisticians, immunologists, and laboratory specialists to help us deliver cutting edge research using linked data and biosampling techniques in Wales and London. You will get to work alongside leaders in the field of linked data, statistics, epidemiology, and human immunology and join a vibrant research community using the world leading Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank research infrastructure and biomedical research facilities within the Institute of Life Science at Swansea University.

Applications are sought for individuals with skills and experience in the curation and development of e-cohorts, complex analysis of large-scale routine data, and with a background in any of the following areas/background: epidemiology, maternal/health research, statistics, operational research, or related data science disciplines

Activities will include (but not limited to)

  • building a longitudinal, dynamic e-cohort of environmental exposures for Wales and London captured using a Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAP) approach
  • Facilitating the linkage and analysing longitudinal temperature profiles, health, demographic, household, and environment data in the SAIL databank, to produce a multi-scale understanding of how heat impacts on pregnancy in deprived communities.

The post is suitable for an individual with an excellent working knowledge of GIS, particularly Python and R.
