Salary: £13.08 per hour (£25,498 FTE), plus an enhancement of 20% for night work
Hours: Flexible, varied shifts, as and when required.
Contract Type: Casual
Selwyn College is recruiting for a Relief Porter to join our friendly and inclusive College community.
Relief Porters provide support for the Duty Porter during peak times and to provide cover for sickness absence/annual leave. Flexibility will be required to work a variety of shifts or part-shifts.
College Porters are responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the Porters’ Lodge. In addition to acting as first and main point of contact for enquiries from visitors, guests, students, Fellows and staff, Porters are responsible for the safety and security of College premises, and as Fire Wardens, responding to fire alarms and other emergencies. The Porters’ Lodge is staffed 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year.
The successful applicant will be customer-focused, with a friendly welcoming manner, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deal with difficult situations calmly and efficiently.
In additional to a pleasant working environment and surroundings, we offer £13.08 per hour (plus a 20% enhancement for night working), full training, free meals on duty, free use of the College gym and on-site parking.
Selwyn College and its beautiful grounds are generally open to visitors without appointment, so if you would like to have a look around Selwyn prior to submitting your application, you are very welcome to call in at the Porters’ Lodge. If you would like to discuss the role in more detail, please contact us at the email address below and we will be happy to arrange an informal chat with our Head Porter or Deputy Head Porter.
Selwyn College is home to students of all backgrounds from the UK and across the world. We are proud of our diversity. We are keen to receive applications from people who may be under-represented in our community.
If you would like to join our friendly Porters’ Lodge team, please complete an Application Form and email it to [email protected] (please do not send a CV unless this is accompanied by a completed application form).
