Relief Assistant Porters

Updated: about 1 month ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND

The College is seeking to appoint friendly and courteous Assistant Porters to join the Porter’s Lodge on a casual basis.

Trinity is the largest of the 31 Cambridge Colleges and is home to some 700 undergraduates, 400 postgraduates and about 190 Fellows: the College staff number around 350 staff. Trinity has changed greatly over the centuries, but the strong academic tradition has been maintained and College life is lively and diverse. Porters are the “public” face of the College and so are required to treat everyone with respect, dignity and fairness whilst delivering first class customer service. Porters hold key front-line roles ensuring a welcoming, safe, and well-ordered environment with the Porter’s Lodge very much at the heart of the College.

The postholders will assist with the supervision of those accessing the College, deliver scripted tours for tourists (to designated areas of College) communicating important features and facts as well checking for unauthorised parking.

We are looking for positive, well-presented individuals who enjoy being part of a team, are self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills. They must be approachable, genuinely enjoy interacting with a diverse range of people treating each person with dignity, respect and fairness and able to develop appropriate and productive relationships.

The role can involve walking considerable distances as well as standing for long periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather. Experience of safety and security and the ability to deliver exacting standards of customer service are essential.

This role will include working daytime, and weekend shifts; flexibility will be required to cover absences which could be at short notice.

Rate of pay: £12.59 per hour plus holiday pay. A full uniform will be provided.

Trinity College supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society particularly those groups who are currently underrepresented. The College is committed to creating an environment where no person is treated less favourably where all can thrive and develop.

Closing date for completed applications 18 March 2024.
