REF29 - Institutional Main Panel Leads (INTERNAL ONLY)

Updated: about 6 hours ago
Location: Harrow N W and S, ENGLAND
Deadline: 19 May 2024

Background
THIS VACANCY IS OPEN TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

We are seeking outstanding leaders to oversee and coordinate the REF2029 submission in the role of Main Panel leads (A-C) ensuring the University has the strongest REF2029 submission.

The role will be 0.1 FTE initially, increasing to approx. 0.4 FTE as the submission deadline approaches.

King's College London is committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, as part of which we wish to increase the inclusion of typically under-represented groups amongst key roles within the college.

King’s Application process

Candidates are asked to submit a short statement (no more than one side of A4), providing details of their interest in the position, how they meet the person specification and the approach that they will take to fulfilling the responsibilities of the role. In addition, candidates should complete the application form and submit both the completed application form and statement by 11.59 pm on the deadline – Sunday 19 May 2024.

Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to an informal interview with a small panel, comprising the Dean of Academic REF, Dean of Research Culture and up to two additional representatives. References will be taken as part of the application process to confirm the candidates’ suitability for these roles.

Guidance on completing the application form:

Applicants are requested to provide a narrative outline of their approach to the core activities identified in the person specification, in line with the approach of Narrative CVs which are increasingly being adopted by major funding agencies(for example the  Résumé for Research and Innovation (R4RI) template). We ask applicants to provide details on their valued goals, the processes they have adopted to achieve those goals, and evidence of the success or otherwise of their approach drawing on a broad range of outputs. The application form asks for this narrative within five main areas:

  • Involvement in REF processes
  • Coordination of cross-faculty/university projects and/or strategy
  • Organisational skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Enabling a positive research culture

How your application will be assessed:

Your completed application form and your statement will be used by the Panel to provide an overall assessment of your ability to fulfil the role. For each of the five main areas individual panel members will make ratings on the following scale, as well as making narrative notes to guide the understanding of their rating:

  • Little or no evidence of alignment of goals and approach to KCL practices
  • Limited evidence of alignment of goals and approach to KCL practices
  • Alignment of goals and approach to KCL practices
  • Alignment of goals and approach to KCL practices, with limited evidence of desire to exceed standards and promote excellence within KCL
  • Alignment of goals and approach to KCL practices, with consistent and extensive evidence of desire to exceed standards and promote excellence within KCL
  • These ratings will be compared across the panel members. The panel will then make a decision on the appointment based on the balance of the scores given, consideration of the narrative comments and the overall discussion between panel members. Appointments will be made on merit. However where two or more applicants are equally appointable, the panel will give consideration to making an appointment which is in line with our goal to enhance inclusion of typically under-represented groups.
