Animal Technician

Salary Grade 3 - £16,654 to £18,777 per annum

Full-time fixed term contract for 12 months

In this role, you will provide animal care and welfare duties, including watering, feeding and general husbandry, health checking animals and reporting any concerns. You will also carry out scientific procedures and maintain conventional, transgenic and genetically modified animal breeding programmes including ensuring accurate records for colony management are maintained.

As the ideal applicant, you will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent with some prior general work experience, preferably with animals in a scientific or similar environment. You will possess a basic knowledge of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and codes of practice, and a general knowledge of other legislation relating to animals. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate husbandry skills and a high level of attention to detail.

This role is subject to satisfactory completion of enhanced security screening due to the nature of the role and the environment in which the post holder will be working. The level of screening currently required is in accordance with BPSS guidelines however the University reserves the right to change this should it be deemed necessary to safeguard both the institution and its employees.
