About the role

We are looking for an experienced and creative individual who has a genuine passion for delivering high-quality face to face and digital events. 

The Events team is part of our Student Recruitment team in the External Relations Department and supports the University’s strategic objectives relating to Undergraduate Student Recruitment and raising the University’s profile, reputation and impact locally, nationally and internationally.  

The team has responsibility for the planning and delivery of a full and varied annual events programme, with a focus on delivering high quality events that have high impact. These include open days, schools and colleges visits, conferences, events hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, community events, inaugural/guest lectures, virtual events and many others. 

You, along with other Marketing Officers in the team, will also work with the Content Team to develop robust events promotional and communication plans to ensure that attendance targets are met, and that the attendee and their guests receive the highest customer service, providing a seamless customer journey.

Principal accountabilities
  • Support the Events Operations Manager and the wider team to develop and deliver an annual, impactful events programme to support student recruitment and to raise the profile, reputation and influence of the University of Derby to support the University’s strategic ambitions.
  • Manage and deliver multiple events simultaneously according to priorities, overseeing all aspects of the event delivery, including ensuring events are appropriately resourced, delivered to the highest standard and deliver value for money.
  • Ensure effective communication with internal teams regarding operational requirements throughout the event delivery process, including fully briefing all relevant members of the delivery team prior to an event and acting as a key point of client contact at all stages.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships between delivery partner colleagues (e.g. the University’s Estates and Service Delivery teams) and internal clients.
  • Working with teams across the department on events promotional and communication plans, including email, SMS, and outbound calling to ensure that events attendance targets are met, and ensuring that the attendee receives a high quality customer service.
  • Work with the Head of PR and Social Media to ensure appropriate metrics and performance criteria are in place for all events organised by the team. Ensure tracking and metrics are in place for evaluation of all events and championing methods of evaluation and feedback.
  • Understand the University’s ambitions, academic credibility, research portfolio, course offer, their Unique Selling Points (USPs), the target market, the wider recruitment environment and competitor activity to support event development.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal teams such as Content, Design, and Digital delivery teams to develop assets and ensure campaign briefs are met and delivered on time and to set budgets.
  • Ensure utilisation and implementation of digital and other innovative solutions for event delivery and the customer experience.
  • Ensure that developments are informed by sector experience and a knowledge of innovation elsewhere.
  • Carry out any other duties required appropriate to the post as directed by the Associate Director – Student Journey and Events Operations Manager.

    Qualifications
    • Relevant degree (or equivalent qualification) or equivalent comparable work experience

    Experience
    • Demonstrable track record of delivering a range of high quality events including digital/virtual
    • Experience of planning high quality events with defined resources and delivering to plan successfully
    • Experience of reviewing activity, reporting on outcomes and making recommendations to senior colleagues
    • Experience of implementing and/or delivering Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

    Skills, knowledge and abilities
    • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and keep key stakeholders regularly updated on progress
    • Knowledge of developing assets and writing copy for a range of media types
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write copy for a range of audiences
    • Ability to provide a clear brief and project manage complex events
    • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise work & meet deadlines
    • Pro-active with a solutions focused approach to work
    • Creative flair, with innovative ideas and attention to detail
    • Driven, self-motivated, pro-active and self-reliant with a positive and proactive manner, solutions focused and adaptive to change
    • Not phased and thrives in a busy environment whilst able to work flexibly on own initiative and as part of a team

    • Willingness and flexibility to travel and work between University sites in a cost effective and timely manner
    • Willingness and ability to work out of hours, evenings and weekends on occasion, particularly at Open Days/events

    Desirable Criteria

    • CIM qualification, Events Qualification or equivalent experience

    Experience
    • Experience in delivering international events
    • Experience of delivering digital/virtual events and of the technology required.

    • Good understanding of the student recruitment cycle and the broader higher education environment
    • Good understanding of youth marketing and events
