The Department of Engineering Science intends to appoint an Associate Professor in Engineering Science (Chemical Engineering – Energy and/or Environment). The successful candidate will work at the Department of Engineering Science (Central Oxford) and will be a Tutorial Fellow at Balliol College under arrangements described in the Job Description.
The combined university and college salary will be on a scale between £47,263 and £63,463 p.a. plus substantial additional benefits including; college housing allowance of £12,363 p.a. and access to a shared equity scheme (subject to availability) or the availability of limited college accommodation; college research allowance of £1,115 p.a.; private medical insurance (please see the job description for details of all allowances). The post of Associate Professor can be an entry-level permanent academic position, and can also be held by more senior academic staff, some of whom hold the title of Full Professor for which an allowance of £2,754 p.a. is payable. The appointment will be initially for 5 years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the postholder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.
The successful candidate will also assist in the teaching of chemical engineering and general engineering as a whole at both undergraduate and graduate level. In College their role will be as a Tutorial Fellow, providing pastoral support and teaching in the field of Thermofluids and other general engineering aspects of the syllabus, including mathematics. She or he will have a doctorate in the field of chemical engineering or related disciplines as well as a strong background in research in energy and/or environment; a proven research record of high quality at international level; significant future research potential, and the ability to attract research funding and develop an independent programme of research. They must also have an undergraduate degree in chemical and process engineering, physics or related subject. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach effectively, both at undergraduate and graduate levels, and have excellent interpersonal skills for undertaking tutorial teaching.
