Job description

King’s Business School is looking to recruit an outstanding Reader or Professor on our Academic Education Pathway (AEP) to provide mentorship and lead educational scholarship in the quantitative fields of business and management (i.e. economics, accounting and finance).

Informed by the new King’s College London Strategy 2026, our triple crown accreditation and an education strategy focused on rigour, relevance, inclusiveness and innovation, we are going through an exciting development phase. Delivering a transformative education is central to the faculty’s ambitions. Therefore, we are looking for high quality people with a track record in outstanding educational practice and pedagogic scholarship to join our exceptional team and community. The School places a premium on international levels of scholarship and so you will be expected to play a role in the standing and development of pedagogic research and educational practice.

Given this role is on our Academic Education Pathway (AEP), the successful candidate will have to be able to contribute to excellent teaching and take a lead role in the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, mentoring education-focused colleagues in our quantitative subject areas, building the school’s reputation with scholarship and education-related research, and play a key part in shaping and generating income for the new Centre for Innovation, Leadership, Education and Development (I-LEAD).

The role will work closely with our quantitative-focused departments, ILEAD, the wider university AEP community and our Careers Team. The role holder will be expected to engage and lead teaching innovations in partnership with our students that transform the learning experience of our students, drive forward our work-related learning ambitions and deliver student success and outstanding graduate outcomes.

Please note that given that this appointment is on our Academic Education Pathway (AEP). Candidates with significant research outputs and profile, but with limited evidence of excellence in their educational practice, scholarship and knowledge of experiential learning and innovative pedagogic practice are unlikely to be shortlisted. This is an education-focused appointment and candidates will be expected to evidence significant leadership in transforming and enhancing education and student outcomes within an HE context.

We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates as they are currently under-represented within the faculty at this level.

The posts will be offered on an indefinite contract

They are full-time posts 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities
  • Sustain high-quality scholarship activity through a portfolio of individual and/or joint business education projects and secure funding to support educational initiatives.
  • Participate in major (inter)nationally recognised academic networks, attend meetings and conferences to present scholarship and thereby enhance the national (Reader level) and international (Professor) standing of the School.
  • Provide mentorship and work with Academic Education Pathway colleagues in the areas of economics, banking & finance, and accounting to support their development and educational scholarship.
  • Work with subject department Education Leads to enhance educational standards in learning, teaching and assessment.
  • Take on a significant leadership role in the planning, design, organisation and delivery on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Provide high-quality teaching in a quantitative business subject area.
  • Supervise student dissertations and provide support and guidance on academic and pastoral issues by acting as a Personal Tutor to students.
  • Develop and implement a variety of innovative and creative methods to assess student learning and provide feedback that is timely, relevant and appropriate.
  • Lead on the introduction and development of new educational initiatives that support learning and teaching and incorporate them into best practice
  • Make a significant contribution to education-related activities across the school (e.g., engage with education committees, lead projects through ILEAD and facilitate workshops)
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Vice Dean (Education) or the relevant Head of Department

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
