School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences (SRES)

The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences was created in August 2017 bringing together sport and exercise sciences, physiotherapy, sports therapy and related activity. This presents exciting opportunities for new interdisciplinary collaborations and partnership working with external agencies including a range of health practitioners.

The University of Essex has expanded its facilities for sports performance, research and education with the opening of a new facility in January 2018. As part of this development, the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences is investing significantly in new research and teaching provision.

We are therefore seeking to appoint a Reader in Exercise Physiology.

Duties of the Role

The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of learning and teaching within the School, through the establishment of an internationally excellent research programme, the publication of high-quality research papers and the development of innovative teaching methods. You will supervise postgraduate research students and carry out such teaching and administration duties as requested by the Head of School.

Duties will also include generating research income appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms and developing and/or leading internal and external networks, establishing links with relevant academic and professional bodies, contacts and employers.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack attached.

Qualifications and Skills required

The successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree, or have equivalent professional experience or practice and will have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.

A sustained record of effectiveness in education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, an established and internationally recognised research profile, with a well-developed future research agenda and an established record of success in generating external research income appropriate in scale to disciplinary norms and career stage are all essential for this post.

At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.

To support this commitment we have our Global Forum , a staff-led network that promotes and celebrates the rich cultural diversity among Essex staff, and our Colchester campus based Faith Centre , which hosts regular services, meetings and events organised by our chaplains and faith representatives.

Please see the attached job pack, which contains a full job description and person specification, which outlines the full duties, skills, qualifications and experience needed for this role plus more information relating to the post.
