Job summary

This role supports the programme of innovative educational outreach activities within the unique Dangoor Reach Out Makerspace that opened at Imperial College London’s White City Campus, in autumn 2017.

The premise of the Reach Out Makerspace is to encourage young people – particularly from hard-to-reach backgrounds in our local communities – to design, build, tinker and explore STEM and the arts through hands-on approaches. There will be a fully equipped workshop and studio with equipment such as 3D printers, CAD facilities, development boards and laser cutters for making, coding and digital fabrication, as well as more traditional equipment for woodwork, and other craft activities.

This role will work closely with the Reach Out Makerspace Programmes Coordinator on the suite of ‘Maker Challenge programmes’, supporting with programme delivery, liaise with local schools and pupils, recruiting, coordinating timetables and scheduling training of ambassadors and leaders.

You will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the UK school system, technical skills in supporting digital learning as well as experience in administration and data collection for educational programmes.

Note on working hours: This post will be responsible for overseeing activities delivered on evenings, weekends, and school holidays, so flexibility in the approach to work is required.


Duties and responsibilities

• To work alongside the Makerspace Programmes Coordinator to ensure Maker Challenge programmes are organised and prepared in a timely fashion.

• To support the delivery of programmes primarily aimed at students aged 9 - 18 that will incorporate a mixture a mixture of tutorials, group and independent working

• To support the recruitment of young people to take part in the programmes, liaising with teachers and parents to ensure information is gathered in advance of workshop sessions.

• To support the Makerspace team in coordinating and preparing necessary materials and specific equipment for Maker Challenge programme

• To be responsible for coordinating refreshments, food and auxiliary elements of the Makerspace’s suite of activities

• Supporting applicants to submit their applications through various media, including visiting schools, delivering assemblies and careers fairs, and 1:1 sessions.

You will join the College’s central Outreach team – a busy and growing group of STEM practitioners, data handlers and programme managers who work to stimulate interest in STEM subjects among students from disadvantaged backgrounds.


Essential requirements

This role requires proactive and organised individual with experience of data collection and handling, and programme administration The postholder should have strong organisational skills, with an ability to multitask and communicate clearly to a range of different stakeholders. Further information

This is a fulltime, fixed term role, (Until the end of April 2023). Working hours will be not normally less than 35 hours per week.

Successful candidates will require an enhanced DBS certificate that will be arranged by the College.
