Applicants are invited to apply for a part-time Research Assistant (RA) position 0.5 FTE for a 5-month fixed-term contract to join our BBSRC-funded project “Exploring a novel circular economy concept for the valorization of crude glycerol from biodiesel production” in collaboration with the industrial partner, Argent Energy. 

You will have a good honors degree. A PhD (or are close to completing a PhD) is desirable, or have equivalent experience in a relevant subject and possess good knowledge and expertise in biomass valorization through hydrothermal, chemical, and/or enzymatic processing technologies, fermentation and bioprocessing, as evidenced by your PhD thesis and/or authored papers in peer-reviewed journals. 

Familiarity with the fields of biomass pre-treatment integrated to biotransformation to value-added products will be highly advantageous. Practical experience in any of the following is desired: hydrothermal technology, acid and/or enzymatic hydrolysis, HPLC, GC-MS, microbial fermenters, and flow cytometry. We will provide full training in new techniques, supported by the possibility of national travel and collaboration with an industrial partner and building your own research networks.
